Viniyoga Basics - Breath & Movement
Ursa at Exhale To Evolve | AUG 16, 2024
I've created a few videos that walk you through a few basics that we use in viniyoga - directional breathing and connecting breath with movement in a very mindful and focused way. These are both very supportive tools in any yoga practice and great as foundational skills!
Start here - learn a technique for deep, mindful breathing.
(If you feel any dizziness or light-headedness, that is a sign of 'over-breathing'. Please back off a bit and don't breathe as deeply. Your body will learn over time and be able to take in deeper breaths and fuller exhales -- which are very calming to the nervous system.)
Next, let's contain a simple movement within a breath.
Then, we'll combine these two skills you've just learned -- deep, mindful directional breathing and moving within the breath! Now we're starting to really practice some yoga!!
Hopefully you're feeling good by now!!
Finally, we will do a little yoga movement practice -- feel free to include the foundational tools you've learned here while you go through the movements! It gets easier with practice!!
You'll want to have a yoga mat or at least a carpeted surface (not a hard floor), and possibly a blanket to pad your knees (as you can see in the video below.
(This practice is on the floor - if you're not comfortable getting up and down off the floor, please scroll down to the next video that uses a chair instead.)
